Summary, etc. |
|

Summary, etc. |
Introduction: In recent years, the consumption of ultra-processed food and added sugars has been increasing, as well as the incidence of non-communicable diseases (long-term conditions produced by the subject's exposure to multiple risk factors and
markers for a long time).
The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the consumption of ultraprocessed food and added sugars with the increased risk of developing chronic diseases, specifically: Obesity, Cardiovascular Diseases and Cancer.
Material and methods: For this purpose, a bibliographic search was carried out in Pubmed, Scielo and Cochrane, in search of scientific evidence that demonstrated this association. 16 valid articles published in the last 5 years were found.
Results: In the case of obesity, scientific evidence support that a higher consumption of ultra-processed food and added sugars increase the risk of developing it. For Cardiovascular Diseases there is also an increase in that risk. In the specific case of
cancer, association was found between ultra-processed food consumption and an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. It seems like this ultra-processed food consumption also increase the risk of developing the rest of types of cancer. However,
more results are needed to confirm this results.
Conclusions: Ultra-processed food and added sugar consumption is an important risk factor for developing certain non-communicable diseases, so more prevention and information campaigns are needed to reduce their incidence and mortality. |
