Se describen las competencias profesionales que precisa la matrona como gestora de una unidad asistencial en un hospital de referencia, desde la misión y visión del hospital, para alcanzar los objetivos de la unidad. Su perspectiva integral, dada su situación en la organización, le ayuda a detectar necesidades de mejora e introducir cambios consensuados que se consoliden en el tiempo.<br/>Para llevar a la práctica las competencias profesionales, se realizan acciones que van a depender, en su mayoría, de la profesionalidad, el compromiso y la actitud innovadora del gestor, consolidando su figura como líder.<br/>Se describen algunas de las acciones que la matrona-supervisora de enfermería ha impulsado para la mejora de la calidad asistencial y la satisfacción del usuario/paciente y del personal. |

This paper analyzes the professional competences of midwives as managers of a care unit in a reference hospital require and must develop in the context of the hospital vision and mission in order to reach the goals of the unit. Its situation within the organization provides a holistic perspective which helps to identify the needs for improvement and to introduce the agreed changes that will consolidate over time.<br/>In order to practice professional competences, a number of actions have to be implemented which mostly depend upon the professionalism, commitment and innovative attitude of the manager, thus consolidating his/her role as a leader.<br/>This paper describes some of the actions the midwife-nursing personnel supervisor has pushed for the improvement of the quality of care and both, users/patients and staff satisfaction. |
