The aim of this dissertation was to observe the benefits and determine the effectiveness of training sessions through aquatic therapy programs, focusing it as much as possible on a hydrokinesitherapy technique such as the Halliwick Method, on children and adolescents with motor function and cardiorespiratory problems whose psychomotor problems are due to dysfunctions or pathologies of the CNS. Materials and Methods: A systematic search of the literature was made in 5 different databases. The databases used were PUBMED, ScienceDirect, PEDro, ENFISPO and Dialnet. Not all the articles included in this dissertation were obtained through the search in the databases described above, but as many as 9 articles were provided selflessly by the authors. Participants between the ages of newborn babies and 21 years old were included in the study. The dysfunctions of the participants were: myelomeningocele (MMC), premature babies (PB), idiopathic arthritis (IA), Prader-Willi Syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), mental retardation (MR), Down Syndrome (DS), cerebral palsy (CP) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (AU). Outcomes: The outcomes obtained were displayed depending on the pathology of the participants, where aspects regarding their motor and cardiorespiratory performance were evaluated. Regarding the participants organized by neurological pathologies a statistically significant result was obtained in at least one of the aspects measured dealing with their motor or cardiorespiratory performance. Conclusion: The aquatic physical therapy programs, including Halliwick Method, bring benefits for the motor and cardiorespiratory development of children and adolescents with the neurological dysfunctions studied. In the same way the aquatic benefit has been proved on muscle strength, muscular endurance, position, muscle contractures, deformation of joints and pain.Item type | Current library | Collection | Call number | Copy number | Status | Date due | Barcode |
