Aparecen los síntomas propios de la enfermedad, entre otros, la depresión en la mayor parte y por ello, una disminución de la calidad de vida. La enfermería ha de conocer las qué terapias no farmacológicas son las correctas para aplicar a cada paciente. De esta forma, se ayudará a paliar el dolor, a mejorar los síntomas, con un aumento de la calidad de vida. El objetivo principal de esta revisión es describir las diferentes terapias complementarias empleadas en el manejo del dolor del paciente adulto con cáncer, no basadas en la ingesta de sustancias, todo ello con el objetivo específico de describir los principales efectos beneficiosos alcanzados con el uso de terapias complementarias. Material y métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica, artículos en español, inglés y portugués, con preeminencia de textos científicos y artículos de investigación localizados en las principales bases de datos con relevancia para la enfermería, Pubmed, Cochrane, Scielo, Google Académico. De los artículos seleccionados por criterios de inclusión y tras análisis por método Caspe, sólo 11 artículos cumplen los criterios. Resultados: Los resultados obtenidos muestran información de cómo la meditación, relajación, educación, musicoterapia, hipnosis, terapia cognitiva-conductual, acupuntura, reiki, toch TM y la aromaterapia tienen efectos positivos sobre el dolor oncológico y cómo ayudan a aumentar la calidad de vida. Conclusiones: A pesar de las limitaciones encontradas, se ha podido comprobar que dichas terapias son eficaces para tratar al paciente con dolor oncológico; siempre acompañadas de las medidas farmacológicas. Por otro lado, la terapia cognitiva-conductual, es la técnica más utilizada ya que reduce el malestar físico y emocional y también puede ser administrada en un periodo breve de tiempo Summary: Introduction and objectives: Cancer is a disease which augmented during the last few years. The proper symptoms of cancer appear, among others, particularly depression and therefore a reduction of the quality of life. Nursing must know which non-pharmalogical therapies are apropriate to apply on each patient. This is how it will be helped to palliate the pain, to improve the symptoms and to increase the quality of life. The main objective of this revision is to describe the different complementary therapies which are applied for pain management of the adult patient with cancer not based in the intake of substances. All this with the specific aim of describing the principal beneficiary efects which will be achieved through the use of complementary therapies. Material and Methods: It has been realized a revision of the literature and there have been used articles in spanish, english and portuguese, predominantly scientifical texts and research papers founded in the main databases of nursing, Pubmed, Cochrane, Scielo, Google Académico. From the articles selected through inclusion criteria and after realizing analysis through method “Caspe”, only 11 articles met the criteria. Results: The obtained results show how meditation, relaxation, education, music therapy, hipnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy, acupuncture, reiki, toch TM and aromatheraphy have positive effects on the oncological pain and how they help raising the quality of live. Conclusions: Despite of the constraints encountered, it could be verified that those therapies are efficient for treating patients with oncological pain: always accompanied by pharmalogical measures.
