Introducción y objetivos: La automedicación es una conducta ampliamente extendida entre los estudiantes universitarios de ciencias de la salud, pese a ello, se conoce poco sobre el patrón y frecuencia que siguen los alumnos a la hora de llevar a cabo esta práctica, así como de los conocimientos que éstos poseen sobre los fármacos que emplean cuando se automedican. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es describir el patrón y la frecuencia de automedicación de los alumnos de enfermería de la Facultad de Enfermería y Fisioterapia Salus Infirmorum de Madrid.<br/>Material y método: Estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal llevado a cabo entre los meses de octubre de 2013 y mayo de 2014. Se empleó un cuestionario anónimo. Para la codificación y análisis de los datos se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS 15.0. Las variables cuantitativas se describieron mediante la media y desviación estándar y las cualitativas mediante frecuencias absolutas y relativas. Para la comparación de variables se empleó el estadístico Chi2 de Pearson con un intervalo de confianza del 95% y una precisión del 5%. <br/>Resultados: De los 196 cuestionarios obtenidos, el 97,4% de los alumnos manifestó haber practicado la automedicación. Los fármacos más empleados fueron los analgésicos (81,1%), los AINE (72,9%) y los antitusivos y anticatarrales (36,2%). Un 6,8% de los alumnos que indicaron practicar la automedicación manifestaron haber padecido efectos secundarios, de éstos un 46,1% lo notificaron a su médico.<br/>Conclusiones: La práctica de la automedicación está ampliamente extendida entre los alumnos de enfermería de la Facultad de Enfermería y Fisioterapia Salus Infirmorum de Madrid. No se ha hallado relación estadísticamente significativa entre la práctica de la automedicación con ninguna variable sociodemográfica.<br/> |

Introduction and Objectives: Self-medication is a widespread behavior among college students of health sciences, nevertheless, little is known about the pattern and frequency followed by students when carrying out this practice as well as knowledge they possess about the drugs used when they self-medicate. The main objective of this project is to describe the pattern and frequency of self-medication followed by nursing students from the School of Nursing and Physiotherapy Salus Infirmorum in Madrid.<br/>Material and method: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study carried out between october 2013 and may 2014. An anonymous questionnaire was employed. Quantitative variables were described using mean and standard deviation and qualitative variables using absolute and relative frequencies. For comparison of the statistical variables Pearson Chi2 was used with a confidence interval of 95% and an accuracy of 5%. For coding and data analysis SPSS 15.0 was used.<br/>Results: From a total of 196 questionnaires obtained, 97.4% of students assert they have practiced self-medication. The most frequently used drugs was analgesics (81.1%), NSAID (72.9%) and antitussive and anticatarrhal medicines (36.2%). 6.8% of students who reported practicing self-medication said having experienced side effects, 46.1% of those reported it to their doctor.<br/>Conclusions: The practice of self-medication is widespread among nursing students of Nursing and Physiotherapy Faculty Salus Infirmorum Madrid. It wasn’t found a statistically significant relationship between the practice of self-medication with any demographic variable.<br/> |
