Introducción: El cáncer de mama es el más frecuente en el mundo tanto en países desarrollados como en los países en desarrollo. Su incidencia está aumentando progresivamente debido a los cambios en el modo de vida. El linfedema secundario a cáncer de mama, es una patología que afecta a la calidad de vida de las personas que la sufren. Dada la diversidad de tratamientos para el linfedema, se pretende sintetizar y valorar la información científica disponible sobre terapias físicas para el tratamiento de esta patología.<br/>Objetivos: El objetivo principal es determinar la efectividad de la fisioterapia para la reducción del linfedema secundario en mujeres que han sufrido una mastectomía por cáncer de mama.<br/>Material y métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura científica en la que se incluyeron distintos ensayos clínicos. La búsqueda bibliográfica se llevó a cabo en las bases de datos PubMed, PEDro, ScienceDirect y BioMed, limitándose a estudios publicados desde 2004 hasta 2014, tanto en inglés como en español que utilizaran la fisioterapia como tratamiento para el linfedema pos-mastectomía.<br/>Resultados: Los resultados mostraron claramente que la fisioterapia es beneficiosa para el tratamiento del linfedema pos-mastectomía y es comúnmente empleada en el abordaje del mismo, siendo las técnicas que más benefician a los pacientes con linfedema aquellas pasivas y activas, destinadas prevenir y mejorar la reabsorción del edema, los síntomas asociados, el rango de movimiento de la articulación del hombro y el riesgo de infección.<br/>Conclusiones: No se ha podido establecer cuál o cuáles son las técnicas más efectivas para el tratamiento de esta patología. Debido tanto al escaso número y a la baja especificidad de los estudios que se han realizado hasta el momento como a la controversia en cuanto a la efectividad de algunas técnicas. |

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common in the world in both developed countries as in process of development countries. Its incidence is gradually increasing due to changes in lifestyle. Breast cancer related lymphedema is a condition that affects the quality of life of people who suffer it. Due to the diversity of treatments for lymphedema, is intended to summarize and evaluate the available scientific information about physical therapies for the treatment of this disease.<br/>Objectives: The main objective is to determine the effectiveness of physical therapy for reduction of secondary lymphedema in women who have undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer<br/>Methods: A systematic review of the scientific literature in which different clinical trials were included was performed. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, PEDro, ScienceDirect and BioMed, limited to studies published from 2004 to 2014 in both English and Spanish that use the physical therapy as a treatment for post-mastectomy lymphedema.<br/>Results: The results clearly showed that physiotherapy is beneficial for the treatment of post-mastectomy lymphedema and is commonly used to approach it, being the techniques that benefit these patients with lymphedema, those passive and active designed to prevent and improve the reabsorption of edema, associated symptoms, range of motion of the shoulder joint and the risk of infection.<br/>Conclusions: It has not been possible to establish which one or ones are the most effective techniques for the treatment of this pathology. Due to both the small number and low specificity of the studies that have been done so far as the controversy regarding the effectiveness of some techniques. |
