Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. |
Low back pain is one of the most common reasons for medical consultation and the second leading cause of absenteeism in the Western world. Different studies have shown the effectiveness of manual therapy techniques, which include dry needling techniques and muscle energy.
Hypothesis: To determine the effectiveness of these techniques regarding the analgesic improvement measured with algometry and visual analogue scale, and lumbar mobility, measured in centimeters in patients with LBP.
Material and method: 38 people of both sexes, aged 20 and 60, all with low back pain. Experimental single-blind randomized trial. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups: group 1 (n = 19), treated with dry needling and group 2 (n = 19) treated with muscle power. All of them underwent an initial assessment of sensitivity in 4 square lumbar pain points and their lumbar flexibility. In both groups the corresponding treatment was performing a new post-intervention assessment.
Results:
The higher incidence of back pain was found between 30-60 years, with no differences between sexes.
The most sensitive and most frequent point is located under the 12th rib on the left side on the quadratus lumborum Square (60.5%).
The mean duration of low back pain was 8 weeks.
Both study obtained an improvement in all parameters measured. The group treated with dry needling scored the best result in terms of analgesia, and muscle energy group treated with greater flexibility after treatment.
Conclusion: Dry needling and muscle energy techniques areboth effective in terms of analgesic and lumbar mobility improvement in patients with back pain. |
