INTRODUCCIÓN Y OBJETIVOS: Uno de los logros históricos para prevenir enfermedades transmisibles es la vacunación. Los grupos antivacunas intentan influir en la sociedad aportando información carente de evidencia científica y supuestos ejemplos de casos en los que el agravio de las vacunas ha sido mayor que el beneficio. La búsqueda de información sobre la crianza natural que predomina en algunos padres, lleva consigo la aparición de información contraria a las vacunas. Por ello, pretendemos conocer la actitud de los padres sobre la vacunación infantil y observar qué influencia han podido tener.<br/>MATERIAL Y METODO: Desde un enfoque fenomenológico, seleccionamos por muestreo de conveniencia una muestra de 20 participantes, padres y madres con hijos en edad infantil que residan en la Comunidad de Madrid, para entrevistarles acerca de sus creencias con respecto a la vacunación, diferenciando en dos grupos aquellos padres que mantienen un estilo de crianza alternativo de los que siguen un modelo tradicional.<br/>RESULTADOS: Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la mayoría de los padres aceptan positivamente la vacunación como método de prevención de enfermedades, aunque encontramos algunas diferencias cognitivas entre estos dos grupos de padres, relacionadas con los recursos utilizados de búsqueda de información, la confianza generada en los profesionales sanitarios o las experiencias personales previas. Además se encontraron similitudes entre los mitos promovidos por el movimiento antivacunas y las creencias de padres con un estilo de crianza alternativo.<br/>CONCLUSIONES: Aunque la percepción de las vacunas es positiva y la tendencia vacunal parece intacta, existen dudas sobre los beneficios de la vacunación presentes en algunos padres que debemos atender y solucionar mediante la información basada en evidencia científica, la mejora de campañas informativas, y el establecimiento de una mayor relación de confianza con los padres que perciben la vacunación como un negocio de multinacionales<br/> |

INTRODUCTION AND OBJETIVES: One of the most remarkable historic achievements in illness transmission prevention has been vaccination. Some anti-vaccination associations try to influence on our society by bringing information which lacks of scientific and supposed real life events that pretend to show that the grievance of vaccination is greater than the benefits. The search of information related to natural parenting habits reveal an opposition to vaccination practices. Thus, we want to know the parenting habits of some individuals and observe how they influence in their children.<br/>METHOD: Via a phenomenological approach we have selected a sample of 20 participants: parents with children under age 6 years old, residents in Madrid. We have interviewed them to know their beliefs about infant vaccination, and separate them in two groups, those who follow a traditional parenting model and those who follow a natural parenting model.<br/>RESULTS: The final results show that the majority of the parents accept vaccination in a positive way, as the main method to avoid illnesses, but there are certain cognitive differences which are linked to: the information searching methods employed, confidence generated by health professionals, previous personal experiences, as well as some similarities were also discovered between the myths promoted by anti-vaccination groups. <br/>CONCLUSIONS: Although vaccination perception is positive and the tendency to vaccinate seems intact, some parents doubt the benefits of vaccination. We, as health professionals, must attend them with answers and information: providing scientific evidence, increasing and improving informative campaigns, increasing the confidence with vaccination practices in those parents who perceive vaccination as a multinational business<br/> |
