Introducción: el consentimiento informado y, en definitiva, la información al paciente constituyen uno de los pilares fundamentales de nuestro ejercicio profesional. El objetivo de este estudio es conocer el nivel de implicación en la toma de decisiones terapéuticas y el grado de consentimiento sobre las mismas que tienen los pacientes usuarios de diferentes servicios públicos de fisioterapia en la provincia de Jaén. Material y método: se ha realizado un estudio de diseño descriptivo transversal en el Servicio de Fisioterapia de 17 centros sanitarios públicos de la provincia de Jaén (7 Centros Hospitalarios y 10 Centros de Atención Primaria). Se ha reclutado una muestra de 287 pacientes que, cumpliendo los criterios de inclusión (ser mayor de edad y haber recibido un mínimo de 5 sesiones de fisioterapia) han autocumplimentado una breve encuesta que mide el Nivel de Consentimiento Terapéutico prestado. Resultados: de los 287 participantes, ninguno había prestado su Consentimiento por Escrito, 135 pacientes afirmaron estar informados, haber participado en la toma de decisiones y haber prestado el Consentimiento Verbal, 85 pacientes señalaron estar informados pero no haber participado en la toma de decisiones y no haber prestado ningún tipo de consentimiento (ni escrito ni verbal) y 67 pacientes reconocieron, además de no haber dado consentimiento, no estar informados acerca del tratamiento que estaban recibiendo. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre pacientes que acudían a centros de Atención Especializada o Atención Primaria, en cambio hubo diferencias significativas en relación con el nivel académico y con la edad. Discusión/conclusiones: la utilización del consentimiento informado escrito es, en Fisioterapia, una práctica muy poco extendida. Se hace necesario que los profesionales fisioterapeutas conozcan que un gran número de pacientes no reciben toda la información que desean y aquella que necesitan para consentir el tratamiento de forma libre y voluntaria. |

Introduction: informed consent and, ultimately, patient information constitute one of the fundamental pillars of our professional practice. The objective of this study is to know the level of involvement in therapeutic decision-making and the degree of consent on the same that patients who use different public physiotherapy services in the province of Jaén have. Material and method: a cross-sectional descriptive design study was carried out in the Physiotherapy Service of 17 public health centers in the province of Jaén (7 Hospital Centers and 10 Primary Care Centers). A sample of 287 patients has been recruited who, meeting the inclusion criteria (being of legal age and having received a minimum of 5 physiotherapy sessions) have self-completed a brief survey that measures the Level of Therapeutic Consent provided. Results: of the 287 participants, none had given their Written Consent, 135 patients stated that they were informed, had participated in decision-making and had given Verbal Consent, 85 patients stated that they were informed but did not participate in decision-making and not having given any type of consent (either written or verbal) and 67 patients acknowledged, in addition to not having given consent, that they were not informed about the treatment they were receiving. No statistically significant differences were found between patients attending Specialized Care or Primary Care centers, however there were significant differences in relation to academic level and age. Discussion/conclusions: the use of written informed consent is, in Physiotherapy, a very little extended practice. It is necessary for professional physiotherapists to know that a large number of patients do not receive all the information they want and the information they need to consent to treatment freely and voluntarily. |
