La formación del Royal Centrallnstitute of Gymnastic de Estocolmo ganó popularidad y -reconocimiento a lo largo del siglo XIX gracias a su base científica. Durante el siglo XIX el Royal Centrallnstitute of Gymnastic contó con numerosos alumnos que acudían a Estocolmo para recibir la formación de Fisioterapia que comprendía: gimnasia médica, gimnasia militar, gimnasia pedagógica y gimnasia estética. Y posteriormente regresaban a sus países de origen donde difundían sus nuevos conocimientos. Los directores gimnásticos hacían en mayor o menor medida aportaciones a la materia estudiada, lo que contribuyó al rápido desarrollo del «sistema de Ling>>. Puede que la aportación más llamativa fuera la de Guztav Zander, en los años 50 del siglo XIX, que siguiendo los principios del sistema Ling diseñó científicamente máquinas de gimnasia, con diferentes posibilidades de carga, cuyo uso debía controlar siempre un fisioterapeuta. Sin embargo, la creación de maquinaria no frenó el desarrollo de técnicas manuales por los directores gimnásticos de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. El director gimnástico y médico E. F. Cyriax y su hijo James Cyriax médico ortopeda, a su vez nieto del director gimnástico J. H. Kellgren,destacan por sus avances en las técnicas de evaluación y tratamiento de la gimnasia médica. |

The training at the Royal Centra//nstitute of Gymnastic of Stockholm gained popularity and aknow/edgment during the 19th century dueto its scientific basis. During the 19th century the Royal Centra//nstitute of Gymnastic had a /ot of students, who travelled to Stockho/m to receive the Physiotherapy education, which consisted of medical gymnastics, military gymnastics, pedagogical gymnastics and esthetica/ gymnastics. Later, they went back to their countries of origin where they would spread their new knowledge. The gymnastic directors also contributed with their own ideas to what they had studied. Maybe the most striking contribution was the one from Gustav Zander's in the fifties of the 19th century, who scientifical/y designed gymnastic machines following the principies of Ling's system, with different /oading possibilities, whose use shou/d be always controlled by a physiotherapist. Nevertheless, the building ot machines did not stop the development of the manual techniques by the Gymnastic Directors from the final decades of the 19th century and the early 20th century. The english gymnastic director and medical doctor E. F. Cyriax and his son James Cyriax (medica! doctor), grandson of the gymnastic director J. H. Kellgren, highlight for their advances in examina/ion and treatment techniques of medica/ gymnastics. |
