El origen de la Fisioterapia como profesión estructurada se remonta a la fundación del Royal Central fnstitute of Gymnastics por Pehr Henrik Ling (1776-1839) en el año 1813. Durante el siglo XIX este instituto se consideró el centro de referencia de la formación de los fisioterapeutas. Se trataba de una formación científica basada en la anatomía y la fisiología que también interesaba a los médicos, y llegó a incluirse en su formación que en un principio carecía de contenidos sobre mecánica. Los estudiantes que completaban la formación obtenían el título de director gimnástico y eran competentes para dedicarse a la gimnasia médica, la gimnasia pedagógica o la gimnasia militar realizando ajustes en la mecánica de la persona. Sin embargo, a comienzos del siglo XIX los médicos ortopedas del Instituto Carolingio fomentaron una reestructuración de la formación de los fisioterapeutas con la que trataron de ganar poder frente a ellos. Tras esta reestructuración la formación que se impartía para la obtención del título de director gimnástico se dividió en dos: por un lado la Educación Física y por otro la Fisioterapia. La primera se estudiaría en la Universidad y la segunda sería suficiente con estudiarla en una escuela que dependiera de una Facultad de Medicina. A partir de ese momento los fisioterapeutas serían subordinados de los médicos. |

Origins of Physicaf Therapy as a structured profession took place with the foundation of the Royal Central fnstitute of Gymnastics by Pehr Henrik Ling (1776-1839) in 1813. During the 19th century the fnstitute was considered to be a reference centre in the training of physicaf therapists. ft was a scientific education based on anatomy andphysiology, which also interested the medica/ doctors, and it was final/y incfuded in their education, that originally did not have any contents about mechanics. Students who compfeted the training obtained the tille of Director ofGymnastics and they were competitive to work as medica/ gymnasts, pedagogica/ gymnasts or mifitary gymnasts by doing adjustments in the mechanics of peop/e. Neverthefess, in the beginning of the 20th century orthopaedics from the Carofingian fnstitute promoted a restructuration of the physica/ therapists education trying to gain power against them. After this restructuration the education that was given in arder to obtain the tille of Director of Gymnastics was divided in two: the Physica/ Education and the Physiotherapy. The first one woufd be studied at the University and the /alter wou/d be enough to study it in a schoof depending from a Medicine Facufty. Since that moment physiotherapists would be subordinates of physicians. |
