N2  - When faced with a patient recently diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, the main objective of nursing care goes beyond the simple treatment of the disease. That objective, that the patient is able to take care of himself. This work presents the plan prepared for a patient of this type, who was admitted to the unit, in Manresa, where the authors work.
This is a first experience of teaching the patient. It tries to provide clear and sufficient knowledge of the disease, in order to be able to correctly plan discharge, when hospital services are no longer essential. Next, the teaching plan carried out in the unit is exposed
