N2  - Efficiency and equity are the two criteria that guide those decisions made in the public health sector. Measuring equity presents more difficulties than objective assessment. Efficiency is usually measured by economic evaluation.
There are three specific forms of economic evaluation contemplated by Professor Cabasés: cost-effectiveness analysis; cost-benefit analysis. In the article, in addition to the theoretical foundations, the case of an economic evaluation study applied to the program for early detection and treatment of congenital metabolic disorders in the Basque Autonomous Community is exposed, for a better understanding of all these concepts
