In addition to his clinical-care functions, he participates in the multidisciplinary nutrition team in an area that has a great impact on the patient and the quality of care. It is about its activity within the pharmacy services. This article presents a review of the program developed in our center. Each of the following four points is explained in detail: 1) Physical structure of the Unit for the Preparation of Intravenous Mixtures and Parenteral Nutrition; 2) Circuit of documents that begins with the medical prescription of the nutritional regimen, calculation and preparation of the worksheet with the detailed content of the nutritional formula of each patient; 3) work techniques to guarantee the sterility and composition of the nutritive mixture; and 4) Microbiological and process quality control. It is concluded that the work of the nurse in the centralized units for the preparation of intravenous mixtures has acquired increasing importance in our hospital, and that their coordination with the pharmaceutical team must be reflected in the existence of updated protocols ER -
