Summary, etc. |
|

Summary, etc. |
Introduction: anemia is a global public health problem affecting 24,8% of the population both developing and developed countries; iron-deficiency anemia is the cause of the higher prevalence in the area of nutritional deficit. This is a late manifestation of a negative iron balance, caused by inadequate absorption, increased requirements, or blood loss, primarily affecting pregnant, preschoolers and children. This blood loss often originates intestinal parasites: Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides and Ancylostoma, helminths causing risk factors such as hygiene and sanitation own iron deficiency anemia. A prevalence rate of 97.8% by STH is in the rural areas of East Malaysia where the population is still limited to health resources.
Main objective: to assess the prevalence of iron-deficiency anemia in the vulnerable population of Malaysia. To assess the prevalence of iron-deficiency anemia linked to the sanitation situation in Malaysia.
Material and method: they conducted a literature search in online databases: The Cochrane Library, PubMed, BioMed Central, PLoS: Neglected tropical diseases, Parasities and Vectors, and The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition using the descriptors MeSH: iron deficiency anemia, Malaysia, sanitation, and helminthiasis.
Results: Ngui R. et al, determined that 16.9% of preschool child and child surveyed have iron-deficiency anemia and is associated with T. trichiura and A. lumbricoides (31.8%). While Ahmed A. determines that 41% of children surveyed have anemia and is associated with T. trichiura and A. lumbricoides
Conclusion: the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in rural areas of Malaysia, between preschool and school, is associated with helminth infections caused by the poor state of sanitation.
|
