Introducción y objetivos:<br/>Se analizan los hábitos y conocimientos de los adolescentes que fuman en pipa de agua. El objetivo principal es evaluar el grado de conocimiento de los adolescentes con respecto a los efectos nocivos del consumo de tabaco mediante la pipa de agua.<br/>Material y método:<br/>Se pasó una encuesta de elaboración propia a alumnos de 3º y 4º de la ESO. Se analizaron los artículos de las bases bibliográficas Pubmed, SciElo, y Google Académico.<br/>Para llevar a cabo la explotación de los datos, se utilizaron las herramientas informáticas Access 2010 y Excel 2010.<br/>Resultados más significativos:<br/>En una muestra de 111 adolescentes, un 20% fuma o ha fumado. Un 7,27% del total que fuma actualmente en pipa de agua marcó que no había fumado nunca. Entre los 14 y los 15 años se triplica el número de personas que se inician en el consumo de tabaco, un 60% de ellos lo hacen mediante la pipa de agua. Más de la mitad de las personas afirman que la pipa de agua no produce enfermedades o lo desconocen.<br/>Conclusiones:<br/>Los adolescentes no conocen los efectos nocivos de fumar en pipa de agua. Hay más adolescentes que fuman con pipa de agua que con cigarrillos convencionales, y se utiliza principalmente como algo social y de ocio. Los padres son más permisivos con la pipa de agua que con los cigarrillos y puede constituir una forma de iniciación al tabaquismo<br/> |

Background and objectives:<br/>The main purpose of this thesis is to study and analyze the habits and understandings of Spanish adolescents who smoke waterpipe. In particular, the thesis assesses the level of knowledge adolescents have regarding the harmful effects of consuming waterpipe.<br/>Material and methods:<br/>Students from third and fourth grade in secondary education were inquired with a self-produced survey. <br/>The revised bibliography comprises articles from medical databases such as Pubmed, SciElo, and scholar Google.<br/>To carry out the exploitation of data, Access 2010 and Excel 2010 tools were used.<br/>Results:<br/>A total of 111 adolescents were surveyed. 20% of these smoke or have smoked. From the total amount of waterpipe smokers a 7.27% had never smoked cigarettes. The number of teenagers starting to consume tobacco at ages between 14 and 15 years old triples, 60% of them through waterpipe consumption. More than a half of the inquired people thought waterpipe smoking was harmless or did not know any related adverse effect.<br/>Conclusions: <br/>Teenagers are not aware of the harmful effects that smoking waterpipe conveys. There are more adolescents that smoke waterpipe than conventional cigarettes. Waterpipe consumption is primarily seen as a leisure or social activity. Most of the parents are more permissive with waterpipe smoking than cigarette consumption what makes waterpipe a popular way of smoking initiation.<br/> |
