Introducción: <br/>El síndrome de Down es la principal causa de discapacidad intelectual y la alteración genética humana más común afectando a 1 de 700 concepciones. Descrito por primera vez por Langdon Haydon Down en 1866, posteriormente ha sido objeto de diversos estudios. Por otro lado la terapia orofacial es un conjunto de movilizaciones, puntos motores y maniobras para la mejora de todo el complejo orofacial. El siguiente caso clínico destaca la importancia de una intervención múltiple, sin olvidar el tratamiento orofacial y la mejora que ha supuesto este tratamiento.<br/>Objetivo:<br/>El objetivo del estudio es demostrar la evolución favorable que se produce a nivel respiratorio, estomatogmático, del habla y del estado de salud general del paciente con el uso de la terapia orofacial o de Castillo-Morales como terapia complementaria a otras terapias neurológicas.<br/>Material y Métodos:<br/>El estudio realizado es longitudinal, cuantitativo y observacional. El caso sometido a estudio es el de una niña de 4 años, diagnosticada con síndrome de Down, residente en Zaragoza, escolarizada normalmente, con un estado social favorable, acude a psicomotricidad y a otras terapias.<br/>Resultados:<br/>Se comparan los resultados obtenidos de Adriana, con el estudio del doctor Castillo-Morales, realizado de 1982 a 1988 sobre 65 niños con síndrome de Down, porque Adriana cumple los criterios de inclusión de dicho estudio<br/>Conclusiones:<br/>Los resultados son positivos, por lo que es recomendable esta terapia para cualquier problema relacionado con la mandíbula, dentición, musculatura orofacial, deglución e incluso problemas respiratorios.<br/> |

Introduction:<br/>Down syndrome is the leading cause of intellectual disability and the most common human genetic disorder affecting 1 in700conceptions.First described by Langdon Haydon Down in 1866, has subsequently been the subject of several studies. Furthermore orofacial therapy is a set of demonstrations, motor points and maneuvers to improve all orofacial complexes. The following case high lights the importance of a multifaceted intervention, without forgetting the orofacial and improved treatment has meant this treatment.<br/>Objective:<br/>The objective of the studies to demonstrate the favorable evolution occurs respiratory, estomatogmático, speech level and general health of the patient with the use of orofacial therapy or Castillo-Morales as adjunctive therapy to other neurological therapies.<br/>Material and Methods:<br/>The studies quantitative and longitudinal, observational study. The case understudy is a girl of 4 years, diagnosed with Down syndrome, lives in Zaragoza, usually schooled, with a favorable social status, and psychomotor go to other therapies.<br/>Results:<br/>Adriana results obtained are compared with the study by Dr.Castillo-Morales, conducted from 1982 to 1988on65 children with Down syndrome, because Adriana meets the criteria for inclusion in the study<br/>Conclusions:<br/>The results are positive, so this therapys recommended for any problems related to the jaw, dentition, orofacial musculature, swallowing and even respiratory problems<br/> |
