|

Introduction and objectives: The whiplash syndrome is an increasingly common disease nowadays, even to become a public health problem in Western countries.
Knowing whether there whiplash associated injuries to physical therapists can help you better select treatment techniques.
The aim of the study was to determine if there is a loss of proper scapulohumeral rhythm in patients diagnosed with whiplash after suffering a traffic accident.

Methods: This is an observational, descriptive and transversal study in which static and dynamic measurement of scapulohumeral complex was performed in subjects with a physician diagnosis of whiplash following a car accident that previously had not suffered any injury in the cervical or scapulohumeral complex.

Results: A sample of 15 patients diagnosed with whiplash was assessed, being 8 men and 7 women, with a standard deviation of 9.5 years. 100% of patients observed in the study had normal scapulohumeral rhythm and a complete shoulder mobility. All patients tested had a symmetry in the static test of the shoulder complex.

Conclusions: Despite the small sample size used in this preliminary study, only 15 patients were not obtained in any of them hampers the scapulohumeral rhythm.
Although the results to future researchers in the field is recommended to improve it with a sample size larger and new measurements to provide a more conclusive statistical results.

|
