Introducción y objetivos: La disciplina enfermera ha evolucionado de manera importante a lo largo de la historia, pero a pesar de ello, la población no consigue tener una imagen clara y precisa de la profesión, desconociendo el propio campo de actuación y responsabilidad de la misma. Se plantearon como objetivos conocer la percepción que tienen los adolescentes a cerca de la profesión de Enfermería, describir las posibles diferencias en función del sexo, así como aquellas relacionadas con el contacto previo con la profesión. <br/> Material y método: Estudio descriptivo mixto, con un enfoque predominantemente cualitativo, complementado con metodología cuantitativa. Se realizaron cinco grupos de discusión con una muestra total de 30 sujetos entre los 13 y 16 años. Además, se repartieron los correspondientes cuestionarios entre los individuos seleccionados.<br/> Resultados: La población adolescente desconoce aspectos importantes de la Enfermería, referentes a las funciones, responsabilidades, nivel de estudios o autonomía entre otras, lo que da lugar a una imagen distorsionada de la profesión. Este desconocimiento está presente en sujetos de ambos sexos e independientemente de la existencia de un contacto previo con los profesionales, existiendo una imagen más positiva en el sexo femenino. Por norma general, los sujetos participantes describen la Enfermería en torno a la Medicina.<br/> Conclusiones: Los adolescentes encuestados presentan una visión de la disciplina enfermera que no se ajusta completamente al ejercicio profesional. Este desconocimiento genera que este grupo poblacional no se beneficie de los recursos ofrecidos por los profesionales de Enfermería, por lo que sería adecuado implantar programas de acercamiento como posible medida resolutiva<br/> |

Introduction and objectives: The nurse discipline has evolved significantly through the history, but however, the population is unable to have a clear and accurate picture of the profession, ignoring the action and responsibility field. The main objectives are to know the perception that adolescents have about the nurse profession, descript the possible differences between sex and those related the previous contact with the profession.<br/>Material and method: Mixed descriptive study, with predominantly qualitative approach, supplemented with quantitative methodology. Five groups of discussion were conducted showing 30 people between 13 and 16 years old and all of them received a corresponding questionary.<br/>Results: The adolescent population don`t know the main aspects about the nursing: functions, responsibilities, educational level or autonomy, that´s why it may be a distorted image of the profession. This ignorance is present in boys and girls regardless of the existence of a previous contact with the profession having a more positive image between women. In general, people that participated describe nursing around medicine.<br/>Conclusions: Adolescents surveyed showing a view of the nursing discipline that doesn´t correspond to the practice. This ignorance do that this group of people can´t get the benefits of the resources from the nurses. It would be nice to do an outreach programs to solve<br/> |
