Introducción y objetivos: en todos los hogares madrileños hay medicamentos, que a menudo se acumulan de manera innecesaria. Éstos, utilizados de forma incorrecta, suponen una fuente potencial de peligro para nuestra salud. <br/>El objetivo principal de este trabajo será estimar el contenido de estos botiquines caseros, prestando especial atención a los aspectos de seguridad del paciente y la automedicación. <br/>Material y método: estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal, sobre el contenido de los botiquines caseros de una muestra de población del municipio de Madrid y sus condiciones de uso. Para ello se ha utilizado un cuestionario de elaboración propia autoadministrado con supervisión del investigador. El tamaño de la muestra fue de 397 ciudadanos del municipio de Madrid. <br/>Resultados principales: casi la totalidad de los encuestados almacenaban medicamentos en su domicilio. Los fármacos más presentes en los botiquines caseros, por orden de frecuencia, pertenecían a los grupos terapéuticos: analgésicos-antitérmicos (tipo paracetamol), antiinflamatorios no esteroideos, protectores gástricos, anticatarrales, antibióticos, antihistamínicos y ansiolíticos. <br/>Conclusiones: la acumulación de fármacos en los hogares madrileños es una práctica muy extendida. Por ello, es necesaria la educación sanitaria en el uso responsable de la medicación y en el hábito de la automedicación. Esta formación debería ser impartida por diferentes grupos de profesionales sanitarios<br/> |

Introduction and Objectives: we can find drugs in all Madrid's households, which are often unnecessarily accumulated. The incorrect use of medicaments constitutes a potencial source of danger to our health.<br/>This paper aims to estimate the content of home medicine cabinets in Madrid, with special attention to the patient safety aspects and self-medication.<br/>Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study on the content of home medicine cabinets and its usage conditions, based on a population sample from Madrid municipality. To that effect, a self-developed survey has been self-administered under the supervision of the investigator. The sample size was 397 citizens of Madrid municipality.<br/>Main results: Almost the totality of respondents stored medicines in their homes. The most present were: analgesics-antipyretics (like paracetamol), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, gastric protectors, cough and cold, antibiotics, antihistamines and anxiolytics.<br/>Conclusions. The accumulation of medicaments is a very widespread practice in Madrid's households. Therefore, health education in the responsable use of drugs and in self-medication habits is necessary. This training must be provided by different groups of healthcare professionals.<br/> |
