Summary, etc. |
|

Summary, etc. |
Aim: The aim of this review is to find and analyze scientific evidence that evaluates (since 2006) the effects of dry needling (DN) in patients who are suffering myofascial pain syndrome in neck and upper extremity.
Methods: Search was conducted in Pubmed, PEDro and Cochrane. 10 randomized control trials (RCTS) were selected, what met the criteria for inclusion in the review. They were assessed by PEDro scale. In the studies patients were treated with DN or DN compared with other techniques. The main variable of the study was the pain.
Results: After conducting the review it was found that dry needling produces a decrease in pain and an increase in pressure pain threshold (PPT) and cervical range of motion (ROM), and improvements, though not as significant in many other variables.
Conclusion: It is considered that there is solid evidence that DN reduces pain in patients with myofascial pain syndrome in neck and upper extremity. However, it requires more scientific and more consistent results.
|
