Summary, etc. |
|

Introduction and objectives:
Idiopathic Scoliosis is a deformity of the spine in all three planes of space, where the frontal plane has exceeded 10°. Different physiotherapeutic treatments can be used as prevention. This literature review aimed at finding more effective techniques for addressing the structural modification.
Materials and method:
A literature search of studies published between 2006 and 2016 in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and PEDro data was performed. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the PEDro scale
Results:
10 items were selected after meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. There are different studies addressing conservative treatment in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Therapies employed were as follows: Schroth, SIR (Scoliosis Intensive Rehabilitation), SEAS (Scientific exercises approach to Scoliosis), Mézières, Klapp, osteopathy, specific exercises for scoliosis, traditional chinese medicine, electrostimulation and aerobic exercise.
Conclusions:
The only method that shows evidence is the three-dimensional Schroth therapy, despite other therapies are effective as SIR, SEAS or specific exercises for scoliosis, show no scientific evidence. The choice of treatment must be focused on the individual patient with a global assessment.
|
