Introducción: La enfermedad de Parkinson es la segunda causa de enfermedad <br/>neurodegenerativa más frecuente por detrás del Alzheimer. Más de 7 millones de <br/>personas sufren esta enfermedad, de la que se estima duplicar el tamaño de afectados <br/>para 2040. La Estimulación cerebral profunda se utiliza mayoritariamente como <br/>tratamiento en aquellos pacientes cuya sintomatología produce un deterioro funcional <br/>grave debido a la progresión de la patología y a que no responden de manera óptima <br/>a la farmacoterapia. <br/>El objetivo principal de esta revisión es estudiar el impacto que tiene este tratamiento <br/>en los principales síntomas motores en las personas con esta enfermedad, <br/>concretamente en las discinesias o bradicinesias, el temblor y la rigidez. <br/>Material y métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica a través de búsquedas <br/>realizadas en PubMed y Cochrane utilizando descriptores MeSH. Para la realización <br/>del estudio se incluyeron investigaciones de los últimos 5 años. <br/>Resultados: para la realización de este apartado se utilizaron un total de 10 artículos <br/>que han mostrado que la Estimulación cerebral profunda como tratamiento ha <br/>resultado aportar grandes mejorías en los principales síntomas motores de la <br/>enfermedad, así como beneficios en la calidad de vida de los pacientes afectados por <br/>el Parkinson. De igual manera, las evaluaciones del área motora realizadas a los <br/>pacientes a través de diferentes escalas tras la aplicación de la terapia se vieron <br/>mejoradas en gran medida.<br/>Conclusión: La terapia investigada en este estudio muestra un efecto positivo en <br/>cuanto a la mejora de los 3 síntomas principales en el paciente diagnosticado de <br/>Parkinson, cuya sintomatología supone un impedimento en el desarrollo de su <br/>independencia. |

Introduction: Parkinson disease is the second most common cause of <br/>neurodegenerative disease in the world. Only Alzheimer overcome Parkinson in <br/>number of patients. More than 7 million people suffer from this disease and it is <br/>estimated to double the number of affected people in 2040. Deep Brain Stimulation is <br/>mostly used as a treatment in those patients whose symptoms cause major functional <br/>decline related to the pathology progression and a non-optimal response to the <br/>medication therapy.<br/>The main objective of this review is to study the therapy impact in the main motor <br/>symptoms of patients who suffer Parkinson disease, specifically dyskinesia or <br/>hypokinesia, tremor and rigidity.<br/>Material and methods: A bibliographic review was carried out through searching in <br/>database as PubMed and Cochrane using Mesh terms. Only research from the last <br/>five years were included in the study.<br/>Results: A total of 10 articles were used to complete this section. Deep Brain <br/>Stimulation has contribute on improvement of the main motor symptoms as a <br/>treatment, as well as provide great benefits in the quality life of the people who is <br/>diagnosed from Parkinson disease. At the same time, evaluations of motor area using <br/>different scales were made to the patients after therapy application showing lower <br/>scores which are related to the benefit provided by Deep Brain Stimulation. <br/>Conclusion: The investigated therapy shows positive effects improving the three main <br/>motor symptoms of Parkinson disease, which can cause severe impediments of their <br/>independence development. |
