Cochrane Library, Cinhal Complete y Scielo.
|

Interventions to reduce the psychological and physical impact of informal caregivers of
people with dementia.
Introduction and objectives: Dementia is one of the most important causes of disability
and dependency in elderly people and that is why the informal caregiver presents
different difficulties not only psychologically but also physically. The objectives of the
work are focused on determining the different non-pharmacological interventions, as
well as nurses to reduce the burden on the informal caregiver. In addition, assess how
COVID-19 has influenced caregivers during the pandemic.
Material and methods: A systematic bibliographic review has been carried out. The
searches have been carried out in different databases, such as: Medline, Cochrane
Library, Cinhal Complete and Scielo. Subsequently, in order to achieve greater
methodological quality, the CASPe guide was applied to the selected articles.
Results: A total of 15 articles were selected to respond to the established objectives.
Regarding non-pharmacological interventions, as well as psychoeducation, cognitivebehavioral therapy, cognitive re-evaluation, therapeutic intervention, mindfulnessbased cognitive therapy... improvements were observed in the symptoms produced by
care in the informal caregiver. Regarding the nursing intervention, it was found that the
education provided served as a great support, since depressive symptoms and
overload were reduced, thus achieving a higher quality of care. On the other hand, the
SARS-CoV-2 pandemic increased the burden of the informal caregiver.
Conclusions: It has been shown that both non-pharmacological interventions and those
provided by the nursing system led to a decrease in the symptoms generated in the
informal caregiver of people with dementia. On the contrary, the COVID-19 pandemic
has been a downturn in caregivers since it has generated greater overload and stress
in care. However, intervention by telephone has had positive benefits. |
