Summary, etc.
520 8# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Introduction: urinary incontinence (UI) is a symptom that occurs during the bladder filling phase and is defined as the perception of any involuntary loss of urine that is a social and hygienic problem. The most common types of urinary incontinence are stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urge urinary incontinence (UUI), and mixed urinary incontinence (MUI). There are notable differences in the literature in the risk factors associated with these types of incontinence. Objective: to determine the prevalence of risk factors for urinary incontinence among women diagnosed with this pathology. Material and method: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in a population of 233 incontinent women, diagnosed and treated in the Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Unit of the Hospital 12 de Octubre with whom it was possible to contact between the months of May to September 2007, about risk factors for urinary incontinence. Results: the risk factors are mainly associated with IUM, and this association is significant in the case of age, number of deliveries, and the presence of tears of the perineum during any of the deliveries (p < 0.05). The high number of women who have suffered primary nocturnal enuresis is also relevant. Conclusion: among the respondents, it has been observed that the older they are and the greater the number of deliveries, the greater the probability of suffering from IUM. Half of these women have also suffered tears during one of the deliveries. 15% of the women had suffered from primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE).
