• Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia de la Unidad de Insuficiencia Cardiaca (UIC) valorando la mejora de calidad de vida del enfermo. • Metodología: Se analizaron 40 pacientes incluidos en la UIC con los tests y los datos correctos en la primera visita y en la de los seis meses, desde el 01/03/2006 a 30/03/2007. A todos ellos se les realizó en las dos visitas el test de la caminata de 6 minutos y rellenaron el cuestionario “Minnesota Living With Heart Failure”(MLWHF). El cuestionario consta de 21 preguntas. Para su análisis hemos agrupado las seis primeras y la 12 y 13 como problemas físicos; de la 7 a la 9 sociales; de la 17 a la 21 emocionales; el resto las consideramos individualmente. En la puntuación a cada pregunta del cuestionario consideramos 2 grupos: los que valoraron las respuestas como ≤ 2 poca afectación y los que las puntuaron como ≥ 3 muy afectados. • Resultados: Los resultados significativos del estudio fueron: en el test de la caminata de 6 minutos (p=0,006), en el total del cuestionario MLWHF (p=0,000) y en los grupos de preguntas asociados; físico (p=0,002), social (p=0,010) y emocional (p=0,001). • Conclusiones: La importancia del equipo de trabajo de la UIC queda demostrada estadísticamente en la mejora de calidad de vida del paciente. |

• Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of a Heart Failure Unit (HFU) in improving patient quality of life. • Methods: We evaluated 40 patients after two 6-monthly visits to our HFU between March 2006 and March 2007. Patient data obtained at the first visit was compared with those at the second visit. All patients performed the 6-minute walk test, on both visits and completed the 21 item Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLWHFQ). For data analysis, questions 1-6 and 12-13 were grouped and categorized as physical problems; items 7-9 as social; 17-21 as emotional problems; the rest were considered individually. Scores were categorized into two groups; ≤ 2 indicating slight impairment and ≥ 3 severe impairment. • Results: At the second visit, we observed significant improvements in the 6-minute walking test (p=0.006), in the global results of the MLWHFQ (p=0.000), and in the categories physical (p=0.002), social (p=0.010) and emotional (p=0.001). • Conclusions: The importance of the role of the HFU team was demonstrated in significant improvement in patient quality of life. |
