| Summary, etc. | Los programas poblacionales de cribado mamográfico dirigidos a mujeres de 50 a 65 años son una práctica común en España y en otros países europeos. Tras más de 10 años de reconocimiento como programas de detección precoz del cáncer de mama, se abre el debate sobre la eficacia del cribado mamográfico para reducir la mortalidad por este tipo de tumor. Se efectúa una amplia revisión bibliográfica en diferentes bases de datos electrónicas (MEDLINE: 1989-2003; CANCERLIT: 1975-2002; CINAHL: 1982-2003; EMBASE: 1988-2003), observando que no es sencillo justificar el cribado mamográfico, encontrando gran diversidad de opiniones en la literatura. |

| Summary, etc. | Population screening mammography programs aimed at women aged 50 to 65 are a common practice in Spain and in other European countries. After more than 10 years of recognition as programs for the early detection of breast cancer, the debate on the efficacy of mammographic screening to reduce mortality from this type of tumor is opened. An extensive literature review is carried out in different electronic databases (MEDLINE: 1989-2003; CANCERLIT: 1975-2002; CINAHL: 1982-2003; EMBASE: 1988-2003), observing that it is not easy to justify mammographic screening, finding large diversity of opinions in the literature. |
