| Summary, etc. | El proceso de envejecimiento conlleva cambios a nivel biológico, psicológico y social que dificultan el mantenimiento de la autonomía de las personas mayores y, consecuentemente, disminuyen su calidad de vida.<br/>El progresivo envejecimiento poblacional, derivado del desarrollo sanitario, social y económico de los últimos tiempos, genera nuevos retos a los profesionales involucrados en el logro de la autonomía de este grupo poblacional cada vez más longevo.<br/>Una de las estrategias fundamentales para el mantenimiento de la satisfacción de las nuevas necesidades surgidas es la promoción del autocuidado. Los profesionales de enfermería somos los principales proveedores de cuidados y a nosotros nos corresponde gran parte de la responsabilidad de hacer frente a las nuevas demandas de cuidado que el envejecimiento poblacional exige. |

| Summary, etc. | The aging process involves changes at a biological, psychological and social level that make it difficult to maintain the autonomy of the elderly and, consequently, decrease their quality of life.<br/>The progressive population aging, derived from the health, social and economic development of recent times, creates new challenges for the professionals involved in achieving the autonomy of this increasingly long-lived population group.<br/>One of the fundamental strategies for maintaining the satisfaction of the new needs that arise is the promotion of self-care. Nursing professionals are the main providers of care and we have a large part of the responsibility to face the new demands of care that population aging demands. |
