Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. |
Objective: Benefits of early skin-to-skin contact include bond formulation as well as breastfeeding encouragement; however this is practiced less when child is delivered by caesarean section. The aim of this study is to know whether direct skin contact in cesarean births can aid in the establishment of healthy breastfeeding.
Material and methods: An observational retrospective study is
based on 241 women. Predicting variables include: early skin-to-skin contact, type of cesarean, previous lactating problems, number of children, prior lactating information, previous breastfeeding, nationality, mother's age as well as age at pregnancy. The resulting variable will be the establishment of breastfeeding.
Results: Of all the predicting variables, the most prominent in affecting the resulting variable were: early skin-to-skin contact, previous lactating problems, nationality, mother’s age and age at pregnancy. These ones indicate a statistical relevance (p <0.05) into the resulting variable.
Conclusions: Data obtained in our study sample confirm that early childhood contact helps establish healthy breastfeeding. By means of early skin-to-skin contact the probability of breastfeeding is 2.336 times higher than in the case of a lack of early skin-to-skin contact. |
