Objetivo<br/>Identificar la relación que existe entre las mochilas escolares y el dolor de espalda en niños y adolescentes.<br/><br/>Estrategia de búsqueda<br/>Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de estudios observacionales en las bases de datos de MEDLINE, PEDro, Web of Science, LILACS e IME; revistas electrónicas especializadas y referencias de estudios relevantes ya identificados.<br/><br/>Selección de estudios y datos<br/>Mediante una búsqueda electrónica y manual se identificaron 102 artículos, incluyéndose 21 trabajos de investigación que cumplieron con los criterios de selección.<br/><br/>Síntesis de resultados<br/>El diseño, la forma de transporte y el peso de la mochila fueron factores relacionados con el uso de la mochila y el dolor de espalda. La mayoría de los estudiantes transportan en sus mochilas pesos que sobrepasan los límites recomendados.<br/><br/>Conclusiones<br/>Los estudios muestran controversia respecto a la relación de la mochila escolar con el dolor de espalda. Está justificado que el peso de la mochila no debe sobrepasar el 10-15% del peso corporal. |

Objective<br/>To identify the relationship between school backpacks and back pain in children and adolescents.<br/><br/>Search Strategy<br/>A systematic review of observational epidemiological studies was conducted in MEDLINE, PEDro, Web of Science, LILACS and IME databases; specialized electronic journals and references of already identified relevant papers.<br/><br/>Study and data selection<br/>Through an electronic and manual search, 102 articles were identified, including 21 research papers that met the selection criteria.<br/><br/>Results<br/>The design of the backpack, the way it is carried and its weight were factors related to the use of school backpack and back pain. Most students carry weights that exceed recommended limits in their backpacks.<br/><br/>Conclusions<br/>The studies are controversial regarding the relationship of the school backpack to back pain. It has been justified that the backpack weight should not exceed 10%-15% of body weight. |
