La inversión uterina puerperal es una entidad poco frecuente, pero muy grave cuando ocurre, por lo que constituye una emergencia obstétrica.<br/><br/>El objeto de este trabajo es proporcionar información sobre la inversión uterina, a partir de un caso clínico que ocurrió en nuestro medio y que fue asistido por dos de los autores, con el propósito de actualizar los conocimientos de los profesionales sobre la gravedad de esta entidad y capacitarlos para su reconocimiento y tratamiento precoz.<br/><br/>Se desarrolla una descripción de la inversión uterina puerperal, de la etiología, las manifestaciones clínicas, los métodos diagnósticos y las opciones de tratamiento médico quirúrgico. Se describe el caso ocurrido en una secundípara de 41 semanas de gestación en el Complejo Hospitalario de Jaén, y se aportan las claves para el manejo de esta situación aprendidas como resultado de la experiencia. |

Puerperal uterine inversion is a rare event, but very serious when it occurs, thus representing an obstetric emergency.<br/><br/>The purpose of this paper is to provide information about uterine inversion, based on a clinical case occurred in our setting, and managed by two of its authors, with the aim to update the knowledge of healthcare professionals about the severity of this event, and train them for its early detection and treatment.<br/><br/>Puerperal uterine inversion is described, its etiology, clinical presentations, diagnostic methods and surgical medical treatment options. The case described involves a woman giving birth for the second time, after 41 weeks of pregnancy, in the Complejo Hospitalario de Jaén, and the key recommendations for managing this situation learnt as a result of this experience are provided. |
