Introducción y objetivos: La fisura labio palatina es la malformación orofacial congénita más frecuente. La alimentación de estos niños es la principal preocupación en los padres, por lo que esta revisión, pretende minimizarla describiendo las dificultades que presentan, los métodos más recomendados y la importancia de un buen asesoramiento por parte del personal de Enfermería.<br/>Material y método: se realizó una revisión bibliográfica a partir de artículos científicos en español, inglés y portugués, recopilados de las tres bases de datos analizadas, Pubmed, La Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (BVS) y Pubmed Central (PMC), entre febrero y junio de 2018.<br/>Resultados: la mayoría de artículos revisados describen que las dificultades y limitaciones que presentan estos niños a la hora de alimentarse son debidas a la anatomía anormal de la cavidad oral que presentan. Los métodos de alimentación varían en función de la capacidad de succión de estos niños. En cuanto a la importancia de un buen asesoramiento, se recomienda la formación del personal de Enfermería acerca de los métodos y recomendaciones de alimentación para estos niños.<br/>Conclusiones: Aunque estos niños presenten mayores dificultades para la alimentación, se evidencia que, con la debida formación por parte del personal de enfermería y asesoramiento sobre los mejores dispositivos especiales y uso de obturadores, estos niños pueden alimentarse correctamente. |

Introduction: Cleft lip and palate is the most frequent congenital orofacial malformation. How to feed these children is the main concern for parents, so this review, aims to minimize this concern by describing: the difficulties they present, the most recommended methods and the importance of getting good advice from the Nursing staff.<br/>Material and method: a bibliographic review searching some scientific articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese was carried out. These articles were selected from the three analysed databases, which are Pubmed, Biblioteca Virual de Salud (BVS) and Pubmed Central (PMC), between February and June 2018.<br/>Results: most of the reviewed articles show that the difficulties that children with cleft lip and palate have when they are feeding, come as a consequence of the atypical anatomy in the oral cavity that they present. The feeding methods are variable depending on the suction ability of these children. Regarding the importance of good advice, the training of the Nursing staff about the methods, as well as feeding recommendations for these children, are strongly recommended.<br/>Conclusions: Although these children present a greater handicap when feeding, it is clear that, if the adequate training is given from the Nursing staff, and if the families receive good advice on the best feeding methods, these children can feed themselves correctly. |
